2005 Results and Highlights

The results for the 2005 Northeastern Ohio Science & Engineering Fair are in!!  The event was held during the week of March 28, 2005 at John Carroll University.  There were nearly 400 projects in the fair this year from grades 7th through 12th.  We also had 20+ entries from the NEOSEF Outreach Program which allowed entries from 5th through 6th graders.  After 2 1/2 hours of interviews, judging and discussions the winners were chosen.  In all, NEOSEF awarded  $10,000 worth of prizes in the Regular Judging portion (not counting the trips to the International Fair), and more than $10,000 worth of prizes in the Special Judging portion of the Fair.

There were three Grand Prize Winners (1 from the Biological Sciences, 2 from the Physical Sciences) chosen.  These winners will represent Northeastern Ohio in the Intel International Science & Engineering Fair to be held in Phoenix, AZ  in May, 2005.  They will receive an all-expense paid trip for themselves, a parent or teacher to the International Fair.  These winners are:

  • Elizabeth Bendycki, from Laurel High School, for her project entitled "Analyzing Martian Temperature."
  • Jeffrey Bhasin, from Rocky River High School, for his project entitled "Comprehensive Evolutionary Study of Disease-Causing Amino Acid Substitutions Using Computational Analysis."
  • Jessica Malone, from Berea High School, for her project entitled "CAESAR: Communal Aptitude Evolution for Autonomous Robots."

We also chose two 7-8th Grade Grand Prize Winners, one each from Biological and Physical Sciences.  The winners in these categories are:

  • Elizabeth Coquillette, from Hathaway Brown Middle School, for her project entitled "The Design and Programming of a Robotic Delivery Team."
  • Leo Mironovich, from St. Josaphat Ukranian Elementary School, for his project entitled "To Herb or Not To Herb: Do Natural Antibiotics Inhibit Bacterial Growth?"

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL PARTICIPANTS ON A JOB WELL DONE!!
